The Hard Days

The Hard Days. This ones for the hard days.

This ones for the days you fight for the ability to get out of bed. For the days your breath gets caught in your chest, for the days the light of the sun and the breath of the wind seem too harsh.

This ones for the days you don’t recognise yourself in the mirror. The days you avoid the mirror altogether. The nights you lay in bed, staring at the back of your eyelids, and forget what it feels like to sleep.

This is for the days you wonder how you’ll fight through. This ones for the days you have to break down into small pieces, putting one foot in front of the other, fighting every step of the way. The days you feel your fake smile slipping from your face, the days you put your head down and hope nobody looks your way.

This is for the days you hide.

The days you ignore your phone when it rings, the days that communicating is so far beyond your capabilities.

This is for the days your future seem bleak. This ones for the days that your world is dark.

This is for the days that it is just you and your mind, and you’ve never felt so alone.

Except, this lonely road is full of people just like you, heads down, eyes averted, fighting their battles. These are not the days you are alone.

These are not the days you are weak.

These are the days you are fighting your hardest. These are the days you are fighting for your life.

These are the days you show yourself the most patience, when you try to take a deep breath and try to wait for this cloud to pass.

These are the days you show yourself the most kindness. When the demon in your own head tries to convince you of horrifying things, but you hold onto the smallest glimmer of hope that this too shall pass.

These are the days you are your strongest. You fight a battle with your own head, and you fight it on your own. And so far, you’ve won. Every. Single. Time.

So to the hard days- do your worst. Keep trying. We’ll keep fighting back.

And to you- make yourself a cup of tea. Have a warm shower, go for a walk and breathe the fresh air. Today is not the day your story ends.
